
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 cup chopped nuts
2 cups pears -- cored & finely
-- chopped
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

- Pour water over oats and allow to sit for 1/2 hour. Cream butter and
sugar; beat in eggs and vanilla.
- In a large bowl, toss pears with flour, mix in soda, salt, spices and nuts. Fold in oatmeal and egg mixture until thoroughly blended. Pour into greased and floured baking pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool. Serve with whipped topping.
